The Best Gems of Basel: Where You’ll Party This Week!
Sure, we all travel to Miami every December for the billion-dollar gallery maze at the Convention Center…and NADA, Seven, Ink, Pulse, and other wonderfully random fairs and exhibits. But who are we kidding?! All you really want to know is where the best parties are, right? Well, without further ado, here’s where you need to be eating, drinking, and getting Aby Rosen’s business card come next Tuesday. November 30 Melissa bash at the Webster to celebrate a collaboration between the Brazilian plastic shoe giant and Italian Architect Gaetano Pesce. Lorenzo Martone is a co-host, so expect a lively, happy group to start your week of right. The Jonathan Meese exhibit opens with the bash at MOCA (it’s worth the $35 cab ride). Bruce Weber will be on premises (his Little Haiti show opened few weeks ago at the institution) along with Ingrid Sischy and Sandy Brant. And all the hosts are very satisfied about the commutes this year. Why? Because Sischy and Brant usually stay at Weber’s home while in Miami. Andre Balazs celebrates the US sea launch of The Aquariva, designed by Marc Newson at the Standard. The week’s favored (and often naughty) spa oasis will host plenty of bashes, but this is a nice little early evening tune up. Nadja Swarovski and Craig Robbins celebrate Swarovski Crystal Palace and Design Miami with a big dinner at SoHo beach house. Do you remember Robbins’ BBQ feast at his house to celebrate the start of Basel? We sure do. Kim Heirston and Doreen Remen already booked their seats. December 1 It’s Alchemist X Art Ruby time! That’s right, it’s our very own giant, Herzog & de Meuron blessed garage party in collaboration with the Alchemist. Z.Car by Zaha Hadid will be introduced, Josephine Meckseper will be on the screens, and Shake Shack and Moët champagne will be served on ice. Expect an awesome crowd…and we should know since we’ve been getting the RSVP’s! Can’t miss event of the night. Larry Gagosian dinner at W’s Mr. Chow. Some of the garage party guests are dining with Larry and Shala beforehand for some big time dealing and schmoozing. December 2 Last year Aby Rosen co-hosted the biggest, boldest party at Basel at W and his returns with an encore. He and his lovely wife Samantha Boardman will host an intimate sit-down at Solea followed by “Warhol at Wall,” an afterparty hosted by Vito Schnabel, Alex Dellal & Stavros Niarchos . Cue to the Warhol themed Dom parade! You didn’t think that Interview magazine was staying away from Basel, did you? The pub and Klaus Biesenbach host their party at the Delano that will go head to head with Rosen & Co. Want some Basel street cred? Head over to the New Art Dealers Alliance (NADA) party featuring DJ Kolkoz celebrating the Nada Sculpture Garden and 7FAM Best Booth Prize Winner. The bash will take place at the Canyon Ranch (that’s uptown, kids!). Finally, Lords Hotel (on 11th and Collins) will wrap this packed night after midnight with an insane, after midnight Boffo revelry hosted by New York kids like Casey Spooner, Arden Wohl, Annabelle Dexter-Jones, and our buddy Cator Sparks. December 3 It’s time to get serious again. Marina Abramovic, Andre Balazs, and Jefferson Hack will host screening for Marco Brambilla’s Evolution, the first ever 3-D Video art installation at The Standard Spa, Miami Beach at the Megaplex. Do we smell a Kanye cameo? The Webster is welcoming Oscar winners! Tilda Swinton is in town to host Pringle of Scotland and the Serpentine Gallery’s bash with buddy Ryan McGinley keeping her company. And this will be a cocktail with Swinton and a full dinner. Still have energy? Then V magazine, Cecilia Dean and their ecstatic group have a party for you at the W. December 4 Our buddies from Spin Galactic (yes, the world’s best ping pong club) are throwing a bash at The Delano with famous devotees like Susan Sarandon and 30 Rock’s Judah Friedlander. Are you going to the Standard’s VIP spa sessions today? You deserve a treatment after all this exhaustion!
